A severe line of thunderstorms approached between 3:49 PM to 3:51
PM EDT on July 18th 2026. The severe thunderstorms produced a
microburst which started on the northwest side of the city of
Norwich NY, just east of State Route 23, and near Cole Drive. The
microburst raced south and east across the city of Norwich
causing extensive tree damage and some damage to residences,
buildings and vehicles. The highest wind speeds were estimated to
be between 80 to 90 mph near and along State Route 12 in the
city. The strong winds and microburst cross Rexford street, then
exited and weakened before ending along county route 32.
The National Weather Service would like to thank the city of
Norwich emergency management, law enforcement and impacted
residents of their assistance with this storm damage survey.
