Survey Summary:
Headed to New Berlin and Pittsfield area this morning to find the
start of the damage and follow the storm track where there were
some higher velocities on radar. There was sporadic tree damage
in
Pittsfield and south for a few miles before reaching an area that
had much more concentrated damage. A narrow corridor of damage
was found just off County highway 46 a few hundred yards into the
woods. This concentrated area of damage followed the road well
and
we stopped at a few houses where residence were home. Talking to
residence, their stories helped confirm that this was likely a
tornado, with one explaining that the storm was short and intense
with a pressure drop resulting in a suction sound in their house
and many trees in their front lawn fell. Another residence showed
that the damage was only on one side of the property with little
damage on the other.

As we went down the hill towards Elm Grove and state route 51,
damage became more sporadic but was still in line with the damage
observed already.

Headed into West Laurens, the amount of tree damage picked up.
The direction of the tree fall in West Laurens was largely 225
degrees or so, and given the storm direction and location, was
likely outflow winds in town. Headed south of town down Crawford
rd, the damage became more concentrated once again. Many of the
trees along and east of Crawford rd were also falling in that SW
direction with tree damage not concentrated and more random.
Headed onto properties to the west of Crawford, another
concentrated corridor of tree damage was found. It looked like
the
vortex intensified as it crossed a large, open yard before headed
into the forest once again.

Over the top of the hill, the broken off trees continued down
past a lake where the significant tree damage quickly came to an
end. Talking to a residence on the south side of the lake, they
explained the storm as a Bucket of water being poured from the
sky
and the winds lasting multiple minutes. This sounds like it was a
downburst/forward flank downdraft wrapping into the tornado. With
the lack of any damage corridors or trees falling in a convergent
pattern after this point, this was found to be the end of the
track.
